Your guide to the best startup programs this Summer!

With so many events, programs, accelerators, hackathons, summits, talks, and pitches happening at the moment we decided to make your already super busy entrepreneurial life that little bit easier. Therefore we’ve hand-picked a list of our 13 favourite events this summer. So here’s where they are, who they are for, how to apply for them.

Axel Springer Plug & Play

Calling themselves ‘a home for digital entrepreneurs’, Axel Springer Plug & Play run a 100 day accelerator program for just 5% equity. They offer startups a place to work, access to their network and €25,000 funding. In addition, they also do not have a fixed set of requirements, having invested in many different industries in the past. Take note however, they rarely invest in single founders. You have until the 23rd of July to apply to their September program.

Hardware.co Batch 6 - Quality of Life

 

Hardware.co Batch 5 - Smart Mobility & Logistics

Hardware.co is also back with a new accelerator program running from July 17th to the 31st! With the world in mind this batch is themed Quality of Life, they’re looking for startups in Hardware and IoT who have solutions to clean energy, smart cities, and connected life. Startups of all stages are welcome, and IoT startups working with software solely have a chance too! It’s a tailor-made, high-intensity accelerator packed with expertise. Hardware.co also take 0% equity and no intellectual property is taken. Startups can apply here via F6S, until June 15th, there's also more info here!

What? Accelerator 

Why it's special: Intense two week accelerator, 0% equity and no intellectual property 

Does it cost? Nope!

Health Hackathon by Startup Bootcamp

After their successful hackathon in February, Startup Bootcamp is running a second from the 10th-11th of June at MindSpace Berlin. The program supports innovative startups that combine medical knowledge with smart technologies, with a special focus on behavior change, diagnostics, and genomics, big data and analytics. Teams (That can be a maximum of 5) have full ownership of everything they build and are free to do with it as they wish. It’s worth noting that a €5 registration fee is required, however it’s a small price to pay when €7500+ worth of prizes are up for grabs.

BNP Paribas International Hackathon

BNP Paribas International Hackathon 2016 

 

Taking place 9-11th of June, BNP Paribas’ hackathon is open to startups in all stages, who have bold ideas for data-driven solutions for understanding (potential) customer expectations. It’s for teams used to working with big data or are into into data analytics, exploitation, prediction, and visualisation. Once again, all the intellectual property remains yours and teams involved have the chance to win €25,000, It also takes place right here in betahaus. Further details here.

K-Startup Grand Challenge

A little further afield, but it is a challenge after all. This accelerator lasts 4 months and takes place just outside of Gangnam, South Korea. Teams get the usual, mentoring, funding, help and a workspace, there’s also a $2900 stipend per month to help your team’s living costs. If the thought of going to South Korea isn’t a large enough incentive, first place winners get $100,000. Apply here.

Tech Open Air 2017

It should be no surprise that TOA is on the list, Europe’s leading interdisciplinary technology festival. Again, this year is bigger than the last, with 20,000 Attendees, 200+ Satellite Events, 200+ Speakers, and 1,200+ Founders & CEO's. The actual event runs between the 11 - 14th of July, but be sure that their satellite events will take over the city for that entire week! Tickets range from €329 - €579, which you can grab here!

Why it's special: One of the biggest in Europe & the most renowned in Berlin

Chatbot Summit

Chatbots are all the rage these days and with over 100 speakers, 1500 attendees, and 50 sessions this summit is the place for chatbot startups. It’s a great chance to increase your exposure and demonstrate your product to potential customers, investors and the media. The event takes place on June 26th and it’s worth saying that this one’s pretty expensive, tickets range between €112 – €349.

Sendpulse Startup Program

This one’s a particularly interesting one for startups in online sales or subscription based models. By participating you receive comprehensive assistance in the development of email marketing in your startup completely free! You will also receive a $5,000 grant, expertise from specialists and a personal tutor! Applications are open here.

Startup Mentoring by Enpact

Enpact’s startup mentoring program is starting in summer with three program tracks with startups from Europe & the MENA region, Europe & East Africa as well as Europe and West Africa. Their first program track (EU/MENA) starts in July and the second and third (East Africa/ Europe and West Africa/Europe) start in August. Each program has a different deadline, you can find more info on each and how to apply here.

Startup Night

Startup Night, 2016

This is one of Europe’s largest startup events, where startups present themselves to corporates, investors and potential customers. This year it’s taking place on September 8th in the heart of Berlin with 5000+ participants and 250+ startups from around the world in categories like mobility, energy, communication, AI, AR/VR, health and many more. You can grab tickets here, or if you’re a startup you can apply here.

Why it's special: 5000+ participants and 250+ startups 

Does it cost? €8.40 - €126

Recoding Aviation Hackathon

This 48-hour hack fest takes place at hub:raum Berlin! Seven international airports will open up their APIs and datasets for you to improve the overall passenger experience. There’s a total prize pool of €20,000 and you have until the 16th of June to sign up, which is also the day the hackathon starts, so don’t leave it too late to register.

Beyond1435 Accelerator

So this one isn’t actually happening this summer, but we felt like he had to feature it anyway as it’s so generous. €25,0000, no equity and the chance to cowork in Berlin with a potential Silicon Valley extension. Apply by September 2017 and get ready to start the program in October 2017.

Let it Grow’s Incubator

Their 5 month Incubation program based in Amsterdam supports and accelerates startups whose green innovations are shaping healthier, happier and greener cities! This one too starts in October and runs for 5 months, offering €10,000 funding, dedicated training and mentorship. You have until September 10th to apply.
