Are you a US citizen or green card holder living and working in Germany? Do you have questions about how US tax works for Americans living in Berlin or non-Americans with income in the US? Have you been putting off filing your US taxes for more years than you care to admit? Are you considering a move or business trips to the US and are wondering whether what US tax issues that might trigger? Join me for office hours to discuss your US tax concerns 1-on-1.
The US is one of the only countries in the world that taxes its citizens no matter where they live in the world. (The only other country that does this is Eritrea!) There are a few ways to avoid double taxation, but the rules about international US tax can get pretty hairy. On top of that the IRS can require a lot of information about foreign bank accounts and businesses and even accidentally failing to do this can carry a hefty fine. Rules about how non-Americans are taxed on their US income or when they become tax residents in the US can be equally mind-boggling. Talking through US tax concerns with an expert can help you understand the requirements and stay out of trouble with the IRS.
